Weight Management and Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®)

You may have seen recent news coverage about the weight loss injection Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®), which is being introduced by the NHS to help support people living with obesity. Understandably, this has led to an increase in enquiries.

At the moment, Tirzepatide is not yet available for NHS prescribing in Devon, and we kindly ask patients not to contact the practice directly about it at this time. As a general practice, we are not currently able to offer this treatment.

What’s happening now?

NHS Devon is still reviewing how and where Tirzepatide will be made available.
If it is introduced, demand is expected to be very high, and it’s not yet known how long patients may have to wait.
Until further guidance is provided, GPs are not permitted to prescribe Tirzepatide independently for weight loss.

Private Prescriptions

Some private providers may offer Tirzepatide. If you choose to access weight loss injections privately, please ensure:

The provider offers a comprehensive service, including clinical monitoring and support.
You understand that NHS services cannot monitor or advise on injections purchased privately.
Side effects can occur, and private providers should be able to support you safely.

Other Support Available – Oviva Referral

If you’re looking for weight management support, we may be able to refer eligible patients to Oviva, a digital Tier 3 NHS weight management service that may include GLP-1 medications.

You may be eligible if you:

Are 18 or older and registered with a GP in England
Have a BMI of 40 or more, or 35+ with a related health condition (e.g. diabetes, high blood pressure, PCOS, etc.)
For some ethnic groups, a lower BMI may apply (27.5–32.5) depending on health conditions
